Press Release: The Biggest Little House in the Forest

This July, Tulsa gets something it's never had before: a professional theatre company built exclusively for young children. Redbud Theatre for Young Audiences makes its debut with The Biggest Little House in the Forest, a 45-minute live performance featuring original music and puppetry designed specifically for kids ages 2 to 6.

Three of the four performances are completely free, sponsored by the Tulsa City-County Library at Hardesty and Central Library on July 15–16. No tickets, no registration. Just show up. A ticketed premiere takes place July 11 at LIFE Senior Services Roma Berry Center for Seniors, designed as a special grandparent-and-grandchild experience with a post-show photo with the cast and puppets.

A few things that make this worth covering:

  • A Tulsa first. Redbud is the city's first professional theatre company dedicated exclusively to young audiences, founded on the belief that every child deserves quality live theatre regardless of income or zip code.

  • Serious creative credentials. The production was originally staged by Children's Theatre Company, one of the most acclaimed children's theatre organizations in the country. It stars Alexandra Johnson, a resident artist with Tulsa Opera.

  • Genuinely free. Three performances cost nothing and require no sign-up, a rare combination for professional live theatre.

  • Built for toddlers. Wiggles are welcome. The show is 45 minutes, no intermission, and designed around how young children actually pay attention.
